Why Are Low Attack IVs Better for PvP?

The CP formula is: CP = Floor(Atk × √Def × √HP × CPM² / 10). Attack IV has roughly double the weight of Defense or HP in the CP calculation. This means a Pokemon with lower Attack IV stays under the CP cap at a higher level, where the CP Multiplier (CPM) boosts ALL stats equally. The result is more total stat product (Attack × Defense × HP) despite the lower Attack IV.

Example: Azumarill in Great League

• Rank 1: 0/14/15 at Level 45.5 — CP 1500, highest stat product
• Hundo (15/15/15): Level 38 — CP 1497, approximately 7% less stat product

When Does This NOT Apply?

In Master League there's no CP cap, so 15/15/15 is always best. For Pokemon that don't reach the CP cap even at Level 50 (like Chansey in Great League), hundos are optimal.
