Pokemon GO Tips and Tricks 2026
Useful knowledge that makes you a better trainer. From hidden mechanics to resource optimization — updated for the current game state including the June 2026 battle system overhaul.
Catch Rate Multipliers
Every throw is a probability roll. These multipliers stack multiplicatively:
- Poke Ball: 1.0× | Great Ball: 1.5× | Ultra Ball: 2.0×
- Razz Berry: 1.5× | Silver Pinap: 1.8× | Golden Razz: 2.5×
- Nice Throw: 1.0–1.3× | Great Throw: 1.3–1.7× | Excellent Throw: 1.7–2.0×
- Curve Ball: 1.7× (always throw curves!)
Best case: Ultra Ball (2.0) × Golden Razz (2.5) × Excellent (2.0) × Curve (1.7) = 17× base catch rate
PvP Battle Tips (Post-June 2026 Overhaul)
- Switch timer: 45 seconds (changed from 60 in Sept 2025)
- CMP (Charged Move Priority): Higher Attack stat goes first when both use charged moves on same turn
- Shield strategy: Don't shield low-energy moves early — save for closers
- Fast move timing: Single-turn fast attacks now tie on same turn; swaps resolve before damage
Stardust Optimization
- Star Piece during Community Day = 50% more dust on hundreds of catches
- Weather-boosted Pokemon give 125 dust instead of 100 (25% more)
- 12km eggs = 3,200–6,400 dust per hatch; use Star Pieces when multiple are close
- Don't power up until you actively need the Pokemon — dust is the scarcest resource
Hidden Mechanics
- Quick catch technique: Drag item menu, throw with other hand, tap flee. Skips animation. NOT bannable.
- Circle lock trick: Hold ball → wait for target size → release → wait for attack → throw during animation
- Mega boost: 1.3× same-type damage for ALL trainers in a raid + candy/XL bonus
- Lucky trade guarantee: Best Friends have ~5% Lucky chance; Lucky Friends is 100%
